b. in Shibpore, E. Bengal. s. of. Sadhukhan. also plays sursingar, rabab, chandra sarang, sitar, surbahar, violin, flute, shehnai, clarionet, saxophone, pakhawaj and tabla. Composer and pioneer in orchestration. Established the Maihal Band, 1924. Composed new ragas - Hamant, Prabhat Kali, Hem Behag, Sobhavati, Madanamanjari. Prominent disciples: Ali Akbar (son), Ravi Shankar (son-in-low), Annaprna (daughtet), Pannalal Ghosh, Nikhil Banerjee, Sharan Rani, Timir Baran, Bahadur Khan. |
